Our Take
Connected Papers creates visual maps of papers related to a selected seed publication, helping researchers explore neighboring work and identify clusters in a research area. It is especially useful when entering an unfamiliar topic or looking for related studies that keyword searches may not immediately surface.
A graph is a discovery aid, not a complete literature map: the papers shown depend on the seed paper and the underlying data, and visual proximity does not prove that two studies agree or have equal importance. New, poorly indexed, or differently named work may be absent.
Start with a relevant and reasonably recent seed paper, inspect the references and later citing papers, and verify every record in its publisher or repository. For a systematic review, combine the graph with documented database searches and explicit inclusion criteria rather than treating the map as a complete search strategy.
