Our Take

Copyleaks offers text similarity checking and AI-generated-text detection tools that organizations may use as part of a broader writing-review or integrity workflow. Similarity results can help locate overlapping passages that deserve citation checks, while AI-detection results may prompt closer review of how a text was produced.

Neither type of result proves misconduct on its own. Similarity depends on the databases and matching settings, and AI detectors can misclassify both human-written and AI-assisted text; results can be affected by language, editing, and text length.

Use matches to inspect source attribution and context, and treat AI indicators as uncertain signals rather than evidence sufficient for a disciplinary decision. Follow the relevant institution or publisher policy, preserve drafts and notes when authorship questions arise, and never use a detector score as a substitute for a fair review.
