NVivo
Qualitative and mixed-methods research software for coding, organizing and analyzing unstructured or semi-structured data.

Our Take
NVivo is suited to substantial qualitative projects involving interviews, focus groups, documents, and other unstructured data. Its coding, memo, query, and case-comparison tools can help researchers keep a large analysis organized and make their decisions easier to trace, particularly when several team members share the work.
The software has a learning curve and commercial licensing may be excessive for a small project. Coding tools, visualizations, and automated suggestions do not determine what a theme means or whether an interpretation is justified; those remain methodological decisions.
Develop and pilot a codebook, retain analytic memos, and document how codes were applied or revised. Check software-generated summaries against source excerpts, and confirm that your data-handling and ethics requirements allow sensitive material to be stored in the chosen environment.
