ShareLaTeX

ShareLaTeX

Legacy online LaTeX collaboration platform that became part of Overleaf; useful as a historical reference for the development of web-based LaTeX editing.

Developer:

Overleaf

Our Take

ShareLaTeX was an online collaborative LaTeX editor and is now part of the Overleaf service. LaTeX is especially useful for papers with equations, references, technical notation, and consistent formatting, while browser-based collaboration can help coauthors edit a shared manuscript.

Because ShareLaTeX is a legacy name, users should follow the current Overleaf service and documentation rather than assume an old link or account workflow is still supported. LaTeX also has a learning curve, and collaborative editing does not automatically ensure that references, figures, or the final compiled document are correct.

For a new project, use the current Overleaf platform, keep a clean bibliography file and organized source tree, and compile the manuscript regularly. Check citations and cross-references, review the final PDF for layout problems, and retain a versioned copy of source files for submission and future revision.
