Our Take
Turnitin is used by educational institutions to compare submitted writing with material in its available databases and produce similarity reports. Those reports can help instructors and authors locate passages that need quotation marks, citations, or closer review before a manuscript or assignment is submitted.
A similarity score is not a verdict on plagiarism or research integrity. Properly quoted text, references, common phrases, and a paper's own earlier versions can contribute to matches, while unindexed sources may not appear. AI-writing indicators, where offered, also have limitations and should not be treated as conclusive proof of authorship.
Inspect the matched passages and source context rather than relying on the overall percentage. Correct attribution and quotation issues, follow your institution's policy, and use the report as one diagnostic input—not as a substitute for human judgment or a guarantee that the work is original.
